Pencom shall provide RoHS compliant parts as required to our customers.
RoHS is the Restriction of Hazardous Substances in electrical and electronic equipment, and was issued by the EU (European Union) through the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA).
To be fully compliant to the RoHS Directive, including Delegated Directive (EU) 2015/863, parts or “articles” must contain less than a controlled amount of the following substances:
EU RoHS Restricted Substance | Allowable Limit (at homogenous material level) |
Cadmium and its compounds | 100 ppm (0.01 weight %) |
Mercury and its compounds | 1000 ppm (0.1 weight %) |
Hexavalent chromium and its compounds | 1000 ppm (0.1 weight %) |
Lead and its compounds | 1000 ppm (0.1 weight %) |
Polybrominated biphenyls (PBB) | 1000 ppm (0.1 weight %) |
Polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDE) | 1000 ppm (0.1 weight %) |
Bis (2-ethylhexyl) phthalate (DEHP) | 1000 ppm (0.1 weight %) |
Butyl benzyl phthalate (BBP) | 1000 ppm (0.1 weight %) |
Dibutyl phthalate (DBP) | 1000 ppm (0.1 weight %) |
Diisobutyl phthalate (DIBP) | 1000 ppm (0.1 weight %) |
Full compliance with this table is unofficially termed ‘RoHS 10/10.’ Materials used in the construction of Pencom components and/or assemblies are compliant to ‘RoHS 10/10’ unless otherwise specified in part compliance documents. These restricted substances cannot be used in a finished “article” above threshold limits unless the substance is subject to a RoHS Exemption.
Exemption 6, “Lead as an alloying element”, allows the controlled use of Lead in steel, aluminum and copper alloys for better manufacturing purposes. Pencom uses this Exemption 6 in the manufacture of some components.
